The best thing about cosplay is that you can share the activity with family and friends!
When Bitzy the Bard was a young mother, she started out by timidly matching her children’s Halloween costumes in subtle ways. For example, she might carry a matching puppet or wear a coordinating t-shirt.
Over time, Bitzy became more bold and realized how much more fun they all could have if it became a family activity. A group of coordinating costumes has such impact!
They could not only spend time wearing the costumes but they could also spend time making them. She could use the experience to pass along her crafting wisdom to the next generation.
Each birthday party was also an opportunity to make costumes. Bitzy planned elaborate parties for the children with their favorite themes: fairies, Harry Potter, Godzilla, etc. She would plan games designed around these themes and the children could dress up. Even the grandparents would get involved in the fun, dressing up as characters. The children would have to question them for clues to puzzles and mysteries they had to solve.
When Rose the Ranger grew older, she insisted on having the pets participate. You can find both ready-made outfits and patterns for pet costumes. Leftover scraps from a princess costume soon became a pet costume.
When it comes to cosplay, the more the merrier!
